ST. LOUIS – Southern Illinois men’s basketball senior Sean Lloyd Jr. was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Lloyd averaged 19 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Salukis in a 2-0 week. He shot 58 percent from the field and 44 percent from the 3-point line. Lloyd nearly had a double-double in the win over pre-season Atlantic 10 favorite Saint Louis, adding nine rebounds to his game-high 13 points. He followed that up with a career-high 25 points on 10-for-15 shooting in the true road win at Southeast Missouri on Saturday, going 3-for-6 from the 3-point line. Lloyd has scored double-figures in five-straight games and eight of the last nine.
Lloyd is SIU’s first MVC Player of the Week since Anthony Beane Jr. earned the honor six times from 2014 through 2016. Lloyd is SIU’s second player to earn an MVC weekly honor this season, following Eric McGill, who earned MVC Newcomer of the Week on November 26.
The Salukis host Murray State on Wednesday, December 12, at 7 p.m. in SIU Arena.
