Mike Murphy and Paxton Guy have begun to turn their attention to SIU’s basketball season with the season opener less than a week away.
Acting Athletic Director Jerry Kill joined the pair on In The Dawghouse Monday night to talk about the team’s home opener on November 12th, against the Buffalo Bulls.
“There’s no question, the better people you play the more people are going to come out and watch you play,” Kill said. “This region loves basketball. They love seeing us play good people.”
The first home game of the year has been dubbed the Charles Helleny Tip-Off Classic starting this year. That’s been in the works since before Kill came back to SIU earlier this year.
“A lot of people had talked about doing something special… there’s not a more special evening it can happen in our arena,” Kill explained. “[Helleny]’s been one of the biggest, truest fans we’ve had. The guy has been loyal.”
The Salukis begin the season on the road at Kentucky on November 9th.
